Cancer in Germany 2015/2016

According to the latest estimates by the Robert Koch Institute, around 492,000 cancers were diagnosed in Germany in 2016. About half of these cancers affected the breast (68,900), prostate (58,800), colon (58,300) and lung (57,500). An increase in the number of incident cancer cases to around 510,000 is forecast for the year 2020. All new results were published in the 12th edition of the report "Cancer in Germany". For the first time, the report contains information on cancers of the small intestine and anus. Although these two tumour types are relatively rare, incidence and mortality rates have increased in recent years. Also new are nationwide data on the distribution and 5-year survival by UICC tumour stage. The report "Cancer in Germany" is published every two years jointly by the Association of Population-based Cancer Registries in Germany (GEKID) and the German Centre for Cancer Registry Data (ZfKD) at the Robert Koch Institute. In addition to the results in this issue, you will find additional information on the individual cancer types on our website.
